Project Manager: Global Environment 8 - Peatlands Restoration And Policy Development

Requirements

National Diploma (NQF 6) in Environmental Science or Project Management or relevant qualification within the related field as recognised by SAQA. A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in project management or relevant field 15 of which three (3 years) should be at an entry/junior managerial level (Assistant Director Level or equivalent). All shortlisted candidates, including SMS, shall undertake two pre-entry assessments. One must be a practical exercise, and the other must be an Integrity (Ethical Conduct) Assessment. Experience and knowledge in project / programme management and implementation. Experience in managing large multidisciplinary projects. Experience in the monitoring and evaluation of internationally funded projects. Knowledge in Biodiversity Management. Knowledge of wetlands and wetland legislation and / or experience in the restoration and/or management of wetlands. Knowledge of biodiversity financing. Sound experience in report writing. Knowledge in Financial and Procurement administrative procedures. Leadership and Management. Coordination and liaison skills; Organisational and planning; Communication skills (written and spoken); interpersonal relationship skills. Ability to gather and analyse information. Ability to work independently and in a team. Ability to work under extreme pressure.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure effective project management. Establish the Project Management Unit (PMU) and supervise PMU staff. Ensure that national or international short- term consultants and co-executing agencies and project partners working for the project collaborate and deliver the expected project outputs. Ensure the effective and efficient day-to-day implementation of the project and manage the project according to Global Environmental Facility (GEF), Environmental Restoration Integrated Programme (ERIP) and United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) standards, involving the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and Project Steering Committee (PSC) as required. Manage the project budget. Prepare financial reports, including co-financing reports, and ensure financial operations are transparent. Manage project related activities. Implement the stakeholder engagement plan together with relevant project co- executers. Provide expert knowledge and specialist services for wetland policy development and peatland restoration strategies and practices to ensure project activities are carefully planned, executed, monitored and reported on with respect to their effectiveness. Provide technical advice to project beneficiaries and review technical reports. Manage project progress, monitoring, and reporting. Conduct annual monitoring of the environmental and social safeguard (ESS) risks. Manage project committees and meetings.
