Engineering Technician: Electrical

Requirements

National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Engineering or relevant qualification as recognised by SAQA or relevant qualification. Three (3) years post-qualification experience. Compulsory registration with ECSA as an Engineering Technician. Knowledge: Medical equipment maintenance principles. Biomedical 121 instrumentation. Clinical engineering practices. Occupational Health and Safety Act, Act 85 of 1993. Electrical safety standards. Medical device risk management. Health Technology Management principles. Public Finance Management Act (PFMA). National Treasury Supply Chain Management prescripts. Relevant SANS, IEC and ISO standards applicable to medical devices. Hospital infection prevention and control principles. Asset management systems. Preventive maintenance planning. Quality management systems. Competencies: Medical equipment fault finding. Electronic troubleshooting. Biomedical test equipment operation. Preventive maintenance planning. Calibration techniques. Electrical safety testing. Medical gas equipment knowledge. Networking fundamentals for medical devices. Problem solving. Analytical thinking. Participation in standby and emergency call-out duties. Ability to travel between healthcare facilities. Ability to work in theatres, ICUs, emergency units and other specialised clinical areas. Ability to lift and move medical equipment within prescribed occupational health and safety guidelines. Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook and CMMS applications. A valid driver's licence.

Key Responsibilities

Execution of operational medical equipment maintenance & repair procedures. Problem solving & analysis, Generic competency within customer focus and communications. Maintaining the equipment maintenance database within department Clinical Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) implementation. Mentoring of Students and Artisans. Provide an effective support service to enable an efficient service delivery. Standby duties are compulsory.
